BMW 5-Series

Although BMW has been silent about what engines will power the decidedly unconventional vehicle, it's a safe bet that two of them will be the potent twin-turbo 3.0L inline-six and twin-turbo 4.4L V-8 offered throughout the automaker's lineup. Diesel options are probable for Europe and not out of the realm of possibility for the U.S., though BMW is sure to check how well the 335d and X5 xDrive35d are moving off dealer lots.

The GT is 3.0-in. shorter in length than a 7 Series and 5.3 in. lower than the X6 in height. Like the X6, the GT seats four. Also like the X6 is the rear hatch, which BMW boasts is an innovation for the segment it is aiming to create for this vehicle. The hatch allows for legroom similar to 7 Series and 15.1 cu. ft. of trunk space, but move the rear seats forward and space expands to 20 cu. ft. Fold the seats via button and 58 cu. ft. becomes available. For greater ease of use, the rear opens in two ways: the entire lid and rear glass hatchback-style or just the lower metal like a normal trunk.

2010 Lexus HS 250h

Lexus unveiled today at the Detroit Auto Show world’s first ever dedicated luxury hybrid vehicle: the HS 250h, the fourth hybrid and the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its lineup. Sales will begin later in the summer.

The HS 250s is powered by Lexus’ first four-cylinder gas engine: the 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle that develops 187 hp. The highly efficient Atkinson-cycle engine, made possible by the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system, allows the expansion/power stroke to be longer than the compression stroke so that combustion energy can be more effectively used for production of engine power

Aston Martin Rapide caught undisguised

Even if the English coachbuilder, Aston Martin, has started to pull back the curtain concealing their answer to Maerati’s Quattroporte. The Rapide sport sedan will not make its official debut until September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and go on sale early in 2010. Thanks to a very lucky Aston Martin enthusiast who caught the car completely undisguised in between test runs for sharing their discovery with us. Not much has been revealed about Aston’s new sport saloon, but one thing is for sure, compared to the other new arrival on the four door GT car market, Porsche’s Panamera, the Rapide wins our vote for most style.

Rolls Royce Ghost

The English coach builders from Rolls Royce have just revealed a few more details about their upcoming Ghost luxury saloon that is set to make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The smallest model in Rolls Royce line-up will feature a state-of-the-art chassis which uses an intelligent air suspension system at all four corners along with a multi link layout made up of lightweight aluminum pieces, that can adjust spring rates and dampening in order to produce a ride that combines the best in handling from a performance machine and a the feel of a luxury limousine.
The air bag setup readjusts itself every 2.5 milliseconds, and is so precise that even a rear seat passenger moving from the left to the right side of the car will cause the on board computer to soften up one side and stiffen up the other. This system goes a long way to improve the feel behind the wheel and eliminates unnecessary adjustments by the driver.

Rolls-Royce in need of manpower due to demand for the Ghost

Rolls-Royce is in trouble. Yes, you read that right. But before you start quivering in disbelief, consider first why one of the world’s most prestigious car company’s is in such a conundrum. When it seems like all you are hearing are bankruptcy reports and news of impending sales of entire manufacturers, it is comforting to know that there are still a few other brands out there that have managed to keep their heads above water.

2009 Audi S5

Current Audi/Lamborghini/SEAT design chief Walter de'Silva has designed many beautiful cars during his illustrious career. But even after designing the mouthwatering Audi R8, de'Silva himself called the Audi S5, along with its less powerful, somewhat more subdued A5 twin, the most beautiful car he has ever penned. One of the most passionate designs ever to come out of Germany, the S5 wears a perfect balance of masculine and feminine elements, mixing a strong, assertive gaze with elegantly flowing fenders and a thick fuselage offset with delicate brightwork. Sporty accents to the S5 include a squared-off chin, subtle sill extensions, a slightly longer decklid, and four wonderfully vocal tailpipes—all without detracting from the coupe’s innate beauty. Best of all, it sets the tone for the styling of Audi’s lineup henceforth. Lucky us.
